It's definitely been a while since my last post and here are a few things why...the pregnancy, the reunion planning, and my oldest boy's surgery.
It's been crazy, but Im pretty much at the tail end of both. I am opting for a cesearean delivery so all I need to do is pick a date for my baby to be born. I am currently at 35 weeks however, he was measuring 2-3 weeks 'ahead' according to my doctor two weeks ago.
My high school 10 year reunion is also fast approaching and I couldn't be more excited. Instead of the 4 day event, it had been narrowed down to 3: Ladies Night, Family Beach Day and the Main Reunion Event. Booze Cruize was cancelled because a few of the alumi's kids were graduating that day, one of our alumi is scheduled to get married as well. No worries. I'm just super happy it's going to finally happen!
Lastly, my boy had been getting high fevers lately and was recently hospitalized during the first week of April. Upon his recovery and release, we were advised by his pediatrician that we may have to consider taking out his tonsils. His tonsils had been the culprit for his frequent fevers. They are "large" to begin with, imagine when he's sick and they become swollen. So after that was brought up, two weeks later, he was sick again with a sore throat! We decided to have them taken out because at 3 years old, this boy has taken more meds than a junkie would in a week! (Im guessing) but I really don't think my son should be on an antibiotic regime on top of tylenol and motrin every month.
So today, he underwent his procedure. It was very quick! We checked in at 6:30am and his procedure started at 8:00am and we were outta there by 9:15am. Dr. Ji, his anesthesiologist, gave him the sleeping gas and Dr. Fell, his ENT, did his thing-snipped out his tonsils and his adenoids. My husband and I were waiting outside in the lobby. Dr. Fell came out and told us the procedure went great. Dr. Ji called us in as our boy was coming to. As we approached the bed, he was squirming around like a drunkard trying to figure out what was going on. He cried a bit, but stopped a few moments after I had him in my arms. The nurses told us that he was extremely cooperative and such a good boy! I'm glad. And am actually not surprised, as much as this boy is used to medical procedures and with his high tolerance for pain, he doesn't even cry when getting his blood drawn!
I was relieved that we had the procedure done because I saw his tonsils that they had taken out. They were in a baggie on the foot of his bed. They looked like they could belong to an adult! It's no wonder why this kid was always sick. Imagine the bacteria that gets stuck in there.
We got home, and I knew he was still on morphine. So I gave him pediasure and water, lots of it. He didn't even flinch when he swallowed the fluids. Within two hours later, he was talking and playing like he never went through surgery. I asked if anything hurts, he said "no". For lunch we braved giving him mashed potatoes and gravy...He practically inhaled the whole thing (1.5 containers from KFC)!
I hope he does well in the next two weeks of recovery!! I'm so proud of my brave tonsil-free boy!
